Scrap Journal

This past Friday I had a small surgery (no surgery is small when they knock you out) but with healing I haven't been able to play for the past few days, I couldn't stand it any more I need to get my hands inky. I told myself OK Peggy you only have about 1/2 hour before the pain sets in...lol
So I decided I wanted to create my first page in my scrap journal, see over on face book there is a group called Keep On Scrappin and it's about creating a simple notebook style scrap booking, using only scraps  and bits... I said OK only use what is in front of you. That was leftovers from my dreaming of spring project. This is what I came up with for my first page.
Step 1- gather a simple notebook, gesso the first page while it was still tacky I sprayed glimmer mist and distress inks, then ran my wet brush over it all to smooth out the colors. Added some script stamp.

Step 2-look and see what scraps were laying around and I had one full sheet of Marion Smith's digital page left with strips of some other pages (small strips of torn paper love), inked the edges and of course distress the edges of all paper with edge distresser or you can use a pair of scissors.

Step 3-found this cute picture of my daughter Olivia and our cat sitting in my scrap room enjoying the warm sun that shines through my bay window (I love this picture).
Step 4-embellishment and wow you would be amazed at what I have just laying around on my table, old scrabble book pages so I had to add a doily die cut from Ranger. The flower is created out of old dryer sheets and sprayed with glimmer mist, the leaves are a piece of lace trim that I just cut apart so love that trim.
I was so amazed at how easy and simple it was to create a layout just using scraps, bits and pieces just laying around my table. Don't wait jump in your scrap room and create a layout just using what is on your table, you will have fun-be free-don't over think it-just create!!!

Dreaming of Spring

With the yuckie weather we have been having here on east coast and not alot of snow this winter, we are so ready for spring and it's just around the corner. I am so ready for warmer days and watching everything come to life after a long winters nap. I decided a little spring inspiration was in order so I created this little nest box that holds a tiny round album with spring embellishments to make a soul happy and skip a beat for shabby chic!

Inspired by Karin over at Creative Chaos blog (you will want to visit her blog out it's amazing).
I started with a paper mache box, painted it with pink paint then added picket fence crackle paint from Ranger to give it a worn weathered look...I sooo love. I recently ordered Marion Smith's digital download pages from her website for my February Journal and thought these pages would look beautiful all torn up and inked to wrap around, the box as well as a mini round album to place inside.
Thank you Marion for such lovely artwork in digitals, if you haven't tried her pages you will want to they are so beautiful and fun to create with.
Added little tiny spools for the feet of the box, painted and crackled them too-aren't they so cute...
                                                                   can you see the crackle
                                                                       a peak inside

I added a little birds nest with reindeer moss, tiny little eggs and birdie with roses, pearls, buttons and butterflies, paper roses with leaves that I cut out of Marion's digital pages...

I am so in the mood for spring, time to make something for Easter that is right around the corner too...
